Welcome to my Digital Portfolio!

This site serves to share and document my work as a professor, researcher, learner, writer, and consultant.

I am a teacher, writer, and public and digital humanist, dedicated to exploring the intersections of language, culture, and community engagement. Currently, I serve as a Temporary Assistant Professor of Spanish at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. My academic journey began at the Universidad de la Habana, where I earned my BA in 2014, followed by a doctorate from Vanderbilt University in 2022.

My research explores how twentieth- and twenty-first-century Cuban and Cuban diaspora artists and writers depict the Abakuá Society—an Afro-Cuban religious male confraternity—and how its colonial legacies continue to shape contemporary cultural practices. Beyond my scholarship, I am deeply committed to public-facing and digital humanities initiatives. My work as a research assistant for the Slave Societies Digital Archive (SSDA), an interpreter for Vanderbilt University School of Law’s Immigration Practice Clinic (IPC), and a community volunteer with CHICOS (Children of Hispanic Immigrants Collaborating to Overcome Stress) led me to develop two digital humanities projects: ContArte Latinoamérica and Twin Cities: Latinx and Hispanic Cityscapes. Both serve as searchable databases showcasing art created by Hispanic and Latinx artists. Through ContArte Latinoamérica, I have also conducted interdisciplinary and trans-institutional workshops that integrate Spanish creative writing, literature, and artistic expression to foster cross-cultural dialogue and community engagement.
